The 2026 Walk Is Canceled, But Our Mission Isn’t.

This year, our goal is still $35,000!

13 years as one of Chico’s best events

Over the past 12 years, Walk Woof Wag has raised more than $168,000 for the Chico Animal Shelter, with more than 3,700 participants, 280 volunteers, and 80 sponsors joining us along the way.

For 13 years, Walk Woof Wag has been one of Chico’s favorite celebrations of the incredible bond we share with our animals. Each October, dogs and their humans have gathered in beautiful Lower Bidwell Park for games, activities, costume contests, treats, photos, raffles, and our big group walk—all with one important purpose: raising money for animals who need us.

An Important Update for 2026

Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2026 Walk Woof Wag festival and walk scheduled for October 24.

Earlier this month, the home of Walk Woof Wag’s primary event organizer, Celeste Cramer, was devastated by a fire. Her dogs, Hazel and Boo Bear, were trapped inside and rescued by firefighters. Sadly, Boo suffered severe smoke inhalation and passed away a few days later.

With Celeste suddenly displaced from her home, the loss of essentially all of her belongings, and the heartbreaking loss of Boo, producing an event of this size simply isn’t possible this year.

But we are NOT giving up on our $35,000 goal.

The animals at the Chico Animal Shelter still need medical care. They still need food, shelter, safety, and people willing to give them a second chance. Canceling the walk doesn’t change that need.

We are continuing to raise money throughout 2026, and we need our community behind us.

MEET THE REASONS WE RAISE FUNDS

Sugar

At 12 years old, Sugar came to the Chico Animal Shelter in need of major dental/teeth extractions and an untreated UTI that was causing her pain and suffering. With the medical fund she was able to have the extractions and treatments and now is in a loving home pain free and being spoiled in her golden years.
William

William came to the Chico Animal Shelter and was heartworm positive. William was medically treated through the donations from the medical fund which has been lifesaving for him. He has been adopted to a loving home.
Odin

Odin was found at the parking lot of Home Depot and a good samaritan brought him to the Chico Animal shelter. Staff quickly realized that he was having difficulty seeing and had him seen at VCA. Odin had extremely limited vision and one of his eyes was painful and needed to be medically removed. Because of the medical fund, the shelter was able to pay for the much needed surgery and he was then placed into a loving foster home and after recovering in our care for three months he was adopted to his forever home.
Josie

Josie presented emaciated, dehydrated with overgrown nails. She was treated for that upon intake and we had to slowly monitor her food to help bring her back up to weight by small multiple meals. She has echocardiogram (pulmonary stenosis-congenital) narrowing of the valve which apparently is common in bully breeds. She is currently in a permanent foster home and has been doing well.
Hank

Hank came to the Chico Animal Shelter and because the medical fund provides money for the animals to be tested, they were able to diagnose Hank for heartworms and provide him with the lifesaving treatments needed to live a long healthy life. Hank is now in his forever home, enjoying life to the fullest.
Harry

Harry came to the Chico Animal Shelter as a stray extremely thin and frightened in January 2023. Harry was skittish with people and slow to trust. The Chico Shelter was able to monitor him to gain weight and give Harry the much needed time and handling to learn to trust people. After six months the Chico Animal Shelter is happy to say that Harry is now adopted and living his best life in a loving home.
Ricky

Ricky was found as a stray, a sweet underage puppy with an injured jaw, likely caused by being bitten by another animal. Ricky was taken for immediate emergency vet care. His treatment included wearing a muzzle and eating gruel while his jaw healed. Ricky made a full recovery and was adopted.
Scuttle

Scuttle is a young terrier mix found with two broken legs! He needed bilateral reconstruction on both elbows. The surgery was successful, and lucky Scuttle was adopted by a vet tech.
Tinsel

Tinsel is a terrier mix puppy. He was found in the Target parking lot very sick; it was later discovered that he had parvo. Tinsel made a full recovery after parvo treatment and was adopted.
Starburst

Starburst is a pit bull mix puppy. He came to the Chico Animal Shelter when he was found abandoned inside of a pet store. Starburst wasn't feeling well, and tested positive for parvo. Starburst made a full recovery and was adopted.
Foxy

Foxy is a chihuahua that came to the shelter after being hit by a car. She had a broken front leg, which was successfully treated. Foxy now lives in a happy forever home after being adopted.
